Becoming a VAIPL Climate Connector is one of the simplest and most effective ways you can advance climate action in your faith community. The Climate Connector is the liaison between the faith leader, congregation, and VAIPL.
What are the benefits to your congregation and community?
- Strengthen your congregation/community’s engagement
- Learn about relevant and beneficial campaigns geared toward educating and helping Virginia residents
- Engage in VAIPL events and programs, including film screenings, congregational greening opportunities, climate education, civic engagement, and more
A Climate Connector will support their community/congregation in any number of ways, including:
-
- Plan an Environmental Justice educational presentation, film screening, town hall, or a topic-specific information session sponsored and/or led by VAIPL
- Communicate upcoming VAIPL opportunities in your congregation’s newsletter and/or social media
- Develop and lead an environmental justice volunteer group
- Share VAIPL resources with your congregation, such as the Creation Care, Lenten, or Ramadan calendars, information pertinent to faith communities interested in solar, clean water, resilience campaigns, and much, much more!
- Educate the congregation by inviting your congregational leader to participate in our annual Climate in the Pulpits, on the Bimah, and in the Minbar campaign
- Organize members of your congregation to attend the yearly Day for All People event in Richmond.
- Start a Green Team and implement a plan to “green” your congregation
- and more!
