For the Common Good: Honoring the Kinship of Our Neighbors and All Creation
Register for Virginia Climate in the Pulpits, in the Minbar, & on the Bimah
October 1-3, 2021
We are delighted to invite faith communities across the commonwealth to participate in Climate in the Pulpits / in the Minbar / on the Bimah 2021! The Theme for this year is Honoring Our Kinship with Creation. The goal of Climate in the Pulpits/ in the Mibar/ on the Bimah is to elevate the importance of being good stewards with our neighbors in Creation and to encourage members to pray, act, and vote for the common good because we recognize that a good relationship among all living beings is foundational for healthy and resilient communities.
We are inviting pastors, rabbis, imams, and all faith and spiritual leaders to schedule worship services, sermons, lessons and/or a day(s) of action to address Creation care, climate, and environmental justice, and our work together for the common good. Through our shared climate, our shared need for clean air and water, and our shared democracy, we are bound together in this kinship with our neighbors and all of Creation. We invite you to plan an event where your faith community can participate in actions, lessons, and worship experiences that uplift our relationship to all that make life on this planet, that is, plants, animals, air, and water a desired good.
Our target weekend is October 1- 3, 2021, but you are invited to schedule your event(s) anytime during the fall that works for you. Participate in a way that best fits your community and your schedule. Additional ideas could include inviting a guest speaker, showing a film, hosting a virtual coffee hour discussion, organizing a workshop, or a voter registration drive. We will be providing sermon starts and additional resources soon, but for now please register here to sign up your community for Climate in the Pulpits, in the Minbar, and on the Bimah!
