Governor Northam Receives Report on Revitalizing Environmental Protection

Richmond, VA – Today, Secretary of Natural Resources Matthew J. Strickler issued the final report for Executive Order 6 to Governor Northam. This EO compelled the Department of Environmental Quality to review ways to update regulations, improve Virginia’s environmental standards, reduce delays, and strengthen transparency.

In response, Kendyl Crawford, Director of Virginia Interfaith Power & Light, released the following statement:

“If ‘the environment belongs to all of us’, we all must work together to be good stewards. This means holding each other accountable, ensuring that funds are appropriated to these initiatives and concrete milestones are laid out to achieve them.

While this report is a positive starting point, the work must not stop here. Environmental justice requires action. VAIPL prayerfully looks forward to seeing the administration move from assessment to on-the-ground accomplishments.”
