Creation Care 101: Theological Grounding and Our Moral Call

- Do people of faith have a moral responsibility to care for the planet? This workshop is an introduction and includes deep conversation around theology. It also includes an introduction to some of the most pressing environmental issues.

What does it look like to view environmental issues through a justice and moral frame? This workshop will dig into environmental disparities and their causes in Virginia and the United States.
Environmental Updates and Action Opportunities
1-1.5 hours
During this workshop, you will find out more about the top environmental issues in Virginia surrounding climate disruption and energy use and how your faith community can get involved.
Women and the Environment
1-1.5 hours or 2-4 hours
How does gender intersect with the environment and spirituality? In this workshop, we will discuss the concept of eco-womanism, which, as explained by Rev. Dr. Melanie L. Harris, one of the main thinkers in eco-womanism, “centers the voices and perspectives of women of African descent as they engage earth justice. Drawing upon African cosmology, these perspectives understand the earth as sacred.”
Creation Care 201: An Intro to Solar and Saving Money through Energy Efficiency
1-1.5 hours
- This workshop is an introduction to solar energy and energy efficiency in Virginia. You will find out what is available to you and your faith community, hear stories from other faith communities around Virginia and learn how going green can help to save money in the long run.
Cost
VAIPL offers learning opportunities and workshops for free to faith communities. A suggested donation of $200 covers travel, the speaker or facilitator, materials, and a small portion to the organization for coordination by staff.
