Dr. Richard Cizik, a VaIPL board member, and president of the “New Evangelicals,” was a speaker at the Wagner School of Public Service’s “Religious Leadership, Civil Discourse and Democracy Project,” at New York University this week. Funded by the Ford Foundation, the event focused on new research indicating the public wants pastors and clergy to speak out on moral issues such as the environment. “It was a delight to learn that political polarization, disliked by the public, hasn’t diminished the strongly held belief that faithful public engagement, including getting educated on the issues and voting, is regarded as an important corrective to political alienation and hyper-partisanship,” said Cizik.
